Visiting Fellow Program

The Visiting Research Program at Seoul National University (SNU) provides international researchers and students with the opportunity to conduct collaborative research under the supervision of SNU faculty members.

There are two categories of Visiting Fellows:
  • Visiting Scholar (E-3 Visa)
  • Visiting Student Researcher (D-2-5 Visa)
Duration

1 month to 1 year
Extensions are allowed only within the total 1-year limit.
The duration is determined by the host department and supervising professor.

Eligibility
Visiting Scholar (E-3)
  • Researchers affiliated with overseas universities or research institutions
  • Hold a doctoral degree, or
  • Hold a master’s degree with relevant professional experience
  • Invited by an SNU faculty member
Visiting Student Researcher (D-2-5)
  • Undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral students enrolled at overseas universities
  • Sufficient proficiency in English or Korean to participate in research activities
  • Invited by an SNU faculty member
Application Procedure

    Contact an SNU faculty member and obtain approval for your research visit.

    Prepare the required documents.
  • 3
    Submit the application through the host department.
  • 4
    Receive the official documents for visa application.
  • 5
    Apply for the appropriate visa.
  • 6
    Arrive at SNU and complete orientation and registration procedures.
Application Procedure
Applications should be submitted at least two months before the intended research start date to allow sufficient time for visa issuance and administrative processing.

  • Enrollment Certificate
  • Tuberculosis Medical Certificate (Only for nationals of countries designated under the Guidelines for Visa Issuance and Stay Management of Foreign Tuberculosis Patients – see notices on the HiKorea Website)
Service Fee

Monthly Calculation Policy
The service fee is charged on a monthly basis. Any portion of a calendar month will be counted as one full month.

Important Notes
  • Applicants must obtain approval from an SNU faculty member before applying.
  • Applications should be submitted at least two months before the intended research start date.
  • Required documents may vary depending on the applicant’s nationality and the Korean Embassy or Immigration Office.
  • Applicants are responsible for complying with Korean immigration regulations throughout their stay.
  • S-CARD can only be issued after the service fee payment has been completed.
