Language Program

LEI Introduction

The LEI provides education in various foreign languages—including English, Japanese, Chinese, German, French, Spanish, and Russian—and offers Korean language courses for international students. It is also the institute where the TEPS and SNULT proficiency tests were researched and developed. Serving as SNU’s affiliated language institution, the LEI accepts course registrations through its official website during designated registration periods. Students can receive high-quality language education at a relatively affordable cost without leaving the campus.

KLP Credits

The Korean Language Education Center at the LEI operates tuition-based Korean Language Programs (KLP) for international students. The Regular Program, Evening Class, and 13-Week Program award 3 to 6 credits depending on the total class hours. However, these credits are recognized as extracurricular activities and are not counted toward the maximum course load limit per semester (18 credits). In other words, students enrolled in the KLP can take these courses additionally, even if they exceed the 18-credit limit for regular academic courses.

Upon completion of the program, a separate KLP academic transcript will be issued, explicitly displaying the earned credits and grades. Subject to approval from your Home University, these credits may be transferred and recognized toward your home institution’s degree program.

Financial Support Info

To encourage Korean language learning, the SNU Office of International Affairs (SNU OGA) provides financial support for exchange students who successfully complete the KLP Regular Program, Evening Class, or 13-Week Program during the Spring or Fall semesters (excluding Summer and Winter terms).

Support Details
  • Exchange Students Majoring in Korean Studies
    SNU OGA covers the full tuition fee at the beginning of the KLP course, so students do not need to make any separate payments.
  • Other Exchange Students
    After the KLP course concludes in November, a portion of the tuition fee paid by the student will be reimbursed in the form of a scholarship. The reimbursement rate is approximately 30% to 50% of the tuition. Please note that no reimbursement will be provided if the course is canceled before the end of the program.
