Pop-Up Day: 1,000 Won Meal
On May 29th, the OGA hosted its first ever Pop-Up Day around the theme of the 1,000 won meal. Aimed at creating a hands-on solution to solving any difficulties international SNU members may face, Pop-Up Days are hosted regularly during the semester and focus on one topic that international members may not be so familiar with. For this session, the OGA chose to host a session guiding members through the process of registering for the 1,000 won meal, a meal deal that provides one set menu item at exactly 1,000 won for all SNU members. It is a much appreciated system that allows students to enjoy food at a reasonable price.

OGA Supporters and participants met up in front of Building 63, where the registration kiosk and cafeteria offering the 1,000 won meal is located. After exchanging greetings and introductions, the group made their way inside the building. There, the Supporters guided the participants through the process step-by-step.
First, participants placed their bank-issue cards with transportation abilities on the kiosk card reader. There, they went through the process of registering the card as belonging to a member of the SNU community. Through this process, members are able to receive a 1,000 won discount on every school cafeteria-provided meal.
Next, they took their cards, now SNU member registered, to the counter next to the kiosks. When presented with the card and the students’ mobile student ID, the worker was able to register their card as eligible for the 1,000 won meal. Those who have yet to obtain a bank card are informed that they may individually purchase the 1,000 won meal tickets at the counter using either cash or foreign-issued cards. However, by registering a Korean bank-issued card, SNU members can save themselves from the hassle and simply tap their card on the card readers to receive the meal deal.
After everyone had their cards registered, the participants enjoyed a lunch with the OGA Supporters. Starting from how to pay for the meal, the Supporters also walked the participants through the process of picking up their food. Then, they all sat together at a table and shared pleasant conversation about their school lives. OGA Supporters did their best to ensure students were acclimating to the new environment, and answered any additional questions students had regarding the cafeteria system and school in general to the best of their abilities.
When the meal was finished, OGA Supporters also helped students who were unsure of the process of returning trays and cutlery. The meeting ended on a positive note, with students returning to their respective posts.

The OGA hosts Pop-Up Days every semester, so international members of the SNU community are encouraged to join the next one if they feel the topic at hand is relevant to their needs. Any international members with questions regarding the school or life in Korea in general are more than welcome to attend the OGA’s 152c sessions, a mini in-person Q&A session hosted monthly, or ask questions on the OGA Instagram’s weekly Ask Us Anything. For those who are simply searching for a community to socialise with, the OGA also hosts weekly Happy Hours at the OGA lounge in Building 152 (CJ International Center) on Thursdays, 4-5pm.
